Tinubu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded a former domestic worker, Lawal Ibrahim, 22, at the Ikoyi Prisons, over the alleged gang rape of his former employer.
Ibrahim and others now at large, were also alleged to have robbed their victim of valuables worth N140, 000 while armed with lethal weapons.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Y.R. Pinheiro, consequently ordered the remand of the accused pending completion of police investigation and legal advice from the Office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
Pinherio, however, adjourned the case till Jan. 14 for mention.
Ibrahim was remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending further investigation and the DPP’s advice on the alleged rape, armed robbery and theft of valuables worth N140, 000.
The accused, whose address was given as No. 174, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, is facing a four counts of conspiracy, rape, unlawful possession of arms and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Austin Okeke, had told the court that the accused and others at large, committed the offences on Dec. 21, 2013, at about 3.00 a.m., at House 16, Oniru Private Estate, Victoria Island.
Okeke said the accused had worked with the complainant as a domestic staff some months back.
The prosecutor said, “She later solicited his assistance to help dispose some of her properties because she was moving out of the estate.
“Ibrahim was given the key to the apartment to enable him have access to the property, but he seized the opportunity to duplicate the keys before handing them back.
“He conspired with his friends, who are now at large, and on the said day, broke into the apartment, threatened the occupant with a knife and gang raped her before dispossessing her of valuables.”
He said the complainant, however, recognised the voice of one of her assailants as her former employee and alerted the police the next day.
Okeke said when the apartment of the accused was searched, duplicate keys to the complainant’s apartment and other valuables were recovered.
The prosecutor said among the items recovered included her Zenith Bank and UBA ATM cards, Samsung Galaxy tab and HTC phone.
